Canada Allows 5,00,000 New Immigrants by 2025

Published on : November 3, 2022

Canada is experiencing a labour shortage where there are one million job vacancies. Hence, the government targets to welcome 4,85,000 in 2024 and 5,00,000 in 2025. The country recently announced the New Immigration Levels Plan for 2023-2025. The Immigration Levels Plan targets to invite 4,65,000 new immigrants in 2023.

The reported cause for the labour shortage in Canada is the low birth rate. Canada’s birth rate is the lowest in the world, with 1.5 childbirth per woman. Additionally, the country tops in the world with the oldest population of nine million. A quarter of Canada’s population will reach retirement age in the next five years.

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to LinkedIn to announce the Immigration Plan. He wrote, “This plan outlines how we are going to increase our targets in the years ahead, and it cements our place among the world’s top destinations for talent”.

Trudeau said that this immigration plan helps create the country’s economic growth, cover the job vacancies in businesses, and addresses workforce needs.

With an increased immigration target, Canada expects a subsequent increase in Express Entry and Provincial Nomination Programs (PNPs).

What is the Canadian PNP Program?

Canada PNP Program is for skilled workers with qualified education and work experience. The eligible applicants are allowed to contribute to the economy of a particular Canada’s province or territory. The workers are allowed to live in that province and become permanent residents of Canada.

This program is the best alternative for candidates who cannot meet the eligibility criteria for a PR visa. People with a suitable Provincial Nomination will have a higher chance of getting an Invitation to Apply (ITA) by which they can apply for permanent residency.

The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)

Generally, the highest permanent residence applications come from economic class programs. The second highly preferred program is Family Class Sponsorship. This program allows applicants with sponsorship for permanent residence by their spouse, partner, children, or other family members.

Canada to welcome 80,000 new immigrants per year under a sponsorship program. The Parent and Grandparent Program targets will go up to 28,500 in 2023, followed by 34,000 in 2024.

Canada Express Entry Score

Canada’s Express Entry depends on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. There was a minimum CRS that dropped below 500 once in December 2020. The latest Express Entry draw was issued to 4750 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 496. The low CRS score will enable IRCC to increase the number of invitations for permanent residence applications.

The targets for Express Entry will increase to 82,880 in 2023, 109,020 in 2024, and 114000 in 2025. There will also be a rise in the target of economic class immigrants up to 105,500 in 2023, 110,000 in 2024, and 117,500 in 2025.

Canada Student Visa Success Rate Is Highest After Years

Canada’s student visa rejection rate is low. The reported visa success rate is after two years of high rejections. The embassy is considering applicants even with a three-year gap. Student visa approval rate has improved after the candidates started applying for alternative educational destinations like the U.K, the U.S.A, and Australia.
