US Opens 2.5 Lakh Additional VisaAppointments for Indians

An extra 250,000 visa appointments for students, tourists, and skilled workers.

On September 30, 2024, an additional 2.5 lakh visa appointments were announced by the US Government for Indian travelers, including -

  • Students
  • Skilled workers
  • Tourists

According to the official News Release, “the recently released new slots will help hundreds of thousands of Indian applicants take timely interviews”.  

Already over 1 million nonimmigrant US visas have been granted in 2024. Record number of US Student Visas continue to be processed. All first-time student applicants in India were successful in securing a visa appointment.

Over 1.2 million Indian nationals have travelled to the US in January-September 2024. This marks a 35% increase over the same period last year. At least 6 million Indians have a nonimmigrant visa for their US visit, with many more being granted.

The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi is among the largest diplomatic posts worldwide, representing 17 US federal government departments. The U.S. Embassy manages the activities of the 4 U.S consulates across the country.

  • Hyderabad: 50 days
  • Delhi: 52 days
  • Chennai: 56 days
  • Mumbai: 67 days
  • Kolkata: 70 days
