The UK government has announced a significant increase in the maintenance funds required for international students applying for visas. This change, set to take effect from January 2, 2025, aims to address rising living costs and inflation.
For students planning to study in London, the required maintenance funds will increase from £1,334 per month to £1,483 per month. Those studying outside of London will see an increase from £1,023 per month to £1,136 per month. This adjustment means that students must demonstrate higher financial capability when applying for their visas.
The new requirements will particularly impact students from countries like India, where many students aspire to pursue higher education in the UK. The increase in required funds is expected to ensure that students can adequately support themselves during their studies, reflecting the higher cost of living in the UK.
Prospective students are urged to plan their finances accordingly and ensure they meet the new requirements well in advance of their application dates. This change underscores the importance of financial preparedness for international students aiming to study in the UK.
