The United States To Open 1,00,000 Student Visa Appointment Slots and Interviews in November

Published on : September 30, 2022

The United States has announced the opening of 1,00,000 visa appointment slots. The resume student visa interviews will probably begin mid-November to the end of December 2022. The officials said the first slot of appointments would open in mid-October and the rest to open in mid-November. F, M and J visas will be the first in the queue based on the priority.

Heflin added that the US would have 100% staff by next year. The Embassy and consulates will be able to process more visas by 2023 compared to previous years.

The US government would open 1,00,000 slots for the applicants for H and L worker visas, especially for dropbox cases. Don Heflin, Minister of Consular Affairs from the Embassy, expressed sympathy for people on H and L visas. They were not able to return to their home country and meet their families since the COVID pandemic.

The US Embassy officials said they would cut the wait times for B1/B2 visa applicants. These visas are to be used by tourists and business people in the upcoming months. The general wait time for these visas is 800 days.

The Embassy tweeted, “visa appointments are open for all categories! But because of high demand, wait times remain significant”. According to the US State Department website, the wait time to secure a visa in the US has gone up to 800 days for Indians. It takes 400 days for non-immigrant visas like student or exchange visitor visas.

Indians experienced a long delay on their visitor visas and work permit visas due to backlogs. Yet, the good news is that Indians can travel to the US with a valid F-1 student visa. Also, travelling back to any foreign country from India is easy as they do not need any visa stamp or interview.
