Australia’s SA state is now accepting applications from skilled foreign workers to be considered for a nomination for permanent residence.
On September 27, 2023, South Australia opened the 2023–24 General Skilled Migration program of the state. The South Australian Government has also published the updated Skilled Occupation List.
With a move to a Registration of Interest (ROI) process, applicants must submit an ROI and then receive an invitation before they can apply for a nomination by South Australia.
Those selected based on their ROI profiles will be issued invitations to apply on an ongoing basis throughout 2023-24. |
Due to the high demand from people interested in living and working in South Australia compared to the limited number of nomination spots available, South Australia has transitioned to a Registration of Interest (ROI) system.
As a result, applicants are required to submit an ROI and await an invitation to apply for state nomination. Direct applications for state nomination are no longer accepted.
Under this new process, South Australia is focusing on prioritizing the retention of its international graduates and temporary visa holders.
The South Australian government is specifically looking to attract overseas workers possessing certain valuable skills for various high-demand sectors.
These sectors include:
South Australia is actively seeking highly skilled overseas workers capable of making substantial contributions to the state's rapidly growing industries and national priority projects.
These sought-after individuals fall into two main categories.
International graduates and other temporary visa holders will continue to have access to a wide range of occupations, consistent with previous years. Additionally, there are more than 290 occupations available to offshore skilled workers.
South Australia is currently not accepting applications for state nomination under the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188).
However, business or investor migrants holding a provisional visa (subclass 188) have the opportunity to apply for nomination for extension or permanent visa (subclass 888) in the 2023-24 fiscal year, as these categories are not subject to a nomination cap.
Submitting a Registration of Interest for South Australian nomination is entirely free of charge.
