According to Canadian Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino, Canada is on track to fulfilling its aim to invite 401,000 new immigrants this year.

Under the Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023, the country aims to invite 401,000 candidates per year. Before the pandemic, this target was set at 341,000.

New Immigrants in 2021

This plan is the most ambitious by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in Canadian history as it aims to welcome more immigrants to support the country’s recovery post-Covid.

The country has already welcomed over 184,000 new immigrants this year, with July and June as the months with the most invitations sent.

The number of immigrants welcomed in these years was higher in these two months and reflects how the IRCC wants to catch up and achieve the set goal.

To achieve this goal, it will have to invite 217,000 more immigrants in the remaining months this year, averaging 43,400 per month.

What Makes It Possible

The IRCC has several plans going right this year that are helping it achieve its dream.

Firstly, 23,000 more Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) holders can now enter the country after it eased the travel restrictions on most countries.

Moreover, any new immigrant can now move to Canada.

In May, Canada had launched six new PR programs for over 90,000 essential workers and international students to become immigrants.

Also, it has been holding large Express Entry draws under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) as a sizeable portion of candidates under the category are already living in Canada.
