New Rules for US Student Visa Applicants in India

Written by Anusha | Nov 27, 2023 6:38:07 AM

In an effort to combat fraud and misuse of the appointment system, the United States Embassy in India has introduced new rules for student visa applicants. These rules will be effective from November 27, 2023, and will be enforced by US consulates across the country, including the one in Hyderabad.

Mandatory Use of Personal Passport Information

All F, M, and J student visa applicants are now required to use their own passport information when recreating a profile and scheduling their visa appointment. Failure to do so may result in the rejection of the application.

Consequences for Incorrect Passport Information

Applicants using an incorrect passport number during profile creation or appointment booking will face consequences. Such applicants will not be accepted at the Visa Application Centres (VAC), and appointments will be canceled, with the visa being forfeited.

Rectifying Mistakes

Applicants with incorrect passport information have the option to rectify their mistake. They can either create a new profile with the correct passport information or access an existing profile with the correct details to book an appointment. However, a new visa fee receipt may be required if the old receipt is linked to a profile with incorrect passport information.

Recent Passport Renewals

Applicants who have recently reviewed their passports can proceed with their scheduled appointments by providing a photocopy or other evidence of their old passport number.
