The Canadian province of Manitoba recently held a provincial nomination draw, issuing Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) to 459 candidates under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP).

Eligible Candidates

The candidates who received the LAAs from MPNP get a nomination from the province to support their application for permanent resident status in the country.

Express Entry

The federal Express Entry system is Canada’s system that manages applications under the three skill-based immigration programs  - Federal Skilled Workers (FSW) program, Federal Skilled Trades (FST) program and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

The candidates under these programs must submit their profile to the Express Entry system and are then ranked based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.

The points are awarded based on the candidate’s age, education, work experience and language competency, among other factors.

Manitoba Immigration Program

While the Canadian provinces cannot give permanent resident status to any candidates, they can issue a provincial nomination to support their immigration application to the federal government.

The province awards these provincial nominations under three categories:

  • Skilled Workers in Manitoba: Candidates under this stream must have a full-time employment offer from an employer within the province.
  • Skilled Workers Overseas: These candidates must demonstrate their connection to the province through work experience in the province, close family ties or being invited under its Strategic Recruitment Initiative.
  • International Graduates: These are international students who have completed higher education in the province and prove that they have the skills that are in demand.
