Applying for a Canada PR visa under Express Entry is invitation-based. You can create an online profile with IRCC. The next step is that of waiting for an invitation from IRCC, referred to as an invitation to apply or ‘ITA’. Once you have the ITA issued, you will have to submit your PR visa application within 60 days from receiving the invitation.

Invitations are sent out based on the ranking of the profiles. A high ranking in the Express Entry pool increases the probability of being invited. The minimum cut-off is as per the score given on the 1,200-point Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). This is the CRS score of an Express Entry candidate.

Since all-program draws were resumed by Canada from July 6, 2022, the number of invitations issued in any round of invitations has been going up. Just as in the latest Express Entry draw, the previous draw held on October 26, 2022 also had 4,750 ITAs issued. The minimum CRS cut-off, on the other hand, was CRS 494 in Express Entry Draw #235. The previous draw had a CRS 496 cut-off.

A tie-breaking rule of June 06,2022 20:48:23 UTC was applied to Express Entry draw #235. With this, candidates who got ITAs in the present round of invitations were those with CRS 494 and above, provided they had created their profile before the tie-break applied. IRCC prioritizes profiles created at an earlier date over those entered into the pool later.

What is Canada Express Entry?

Express Entry is an online application management system. From 2015, Canada has been using the federal Express Entry program to manage permanent residence applications under 3 programs. These are the -

  • Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP),
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

Some immigration streams under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are also linked with the Express Entry system.

Express Entry is the main route for skilled foreign workers to work and live in Canada as permanent residents. As per the 2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan, 82,880 will get Canada PR by Express Entry in 2023. Another 109,020 PR visa spaces for Express Entry in 2024. The target for 2025 stands at 114,000.

The best time to begin planning for your Canadian immigration is right now.
