IRCC Holds 3rd Express Entry in Healthcare

Published on : October 27, 2023

Immigration, Refugee, Citizenship, Canada (IRCC) announced its third Express Entry draw on category-based selection - Healthcare occupations on October 26, 2023. A total of 3,600 candidates received the invitations to apply (ITA). The department issued the ITA to applicants with the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score (CRS) of 431.

This is the 3rd Express entry draw on Healthcare occupations in 2023. Healthcare included a major occupation in the category-based selection list.

The List of Express entry in Healthcare occupation is as follows:

July 6, 2023

June 28, 2023

The number of invitations to apply has been increasing, and the leap is recorded from 500 to 3,600 within 2023. The demand for healthcare professionals has been growing subsequently, and Canada emphasizes filling the gap with skilled professionals through Express entry category-based selection.

No Upfront Medical Exam for Express Entry

From October 1, 2023, IRCC eliminated the necessary upfront medical examination, which means now Express Entry candidates do not need to go for an Immigrant Medical Examination ( IME) to submit the permanent resident application to IRCC to receive the PR visa.

However, an exam is still required if IRCC instructs you to submit the test report. Otherwise, applicants can submit the blank form while uploading the profile for the Express entry selection site.

The good thing is that those who have already completed the IME procedure as part of another IRCC application or are living in Canada do not need to go for a second IME. IRCC will inform if they bring further change or modification to this rule.

What is Category-based Selection Express Entry Draw?

IRCC introduced a category-based selection draw at the beginning of 2023. A total of six occupations are included in the list, and candidates will receive the invitations based on their profile and CRS score.

The purpose of the draw is to maintain the balance between the demand for skilled workers in several industries and the supply of the same.

In category-based selection, Express entry CRS is not the deciding factor, but the applicant's qualification, years of professional experience, age, and language ability are the prime measures IRCC considers to send the invitations.

The immigration department included a total of six occupations in the Category list, which are:

  • Healthcare
  • STEM professions (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
  • Trades
  • Transport
  • Agriculture & agri-food
  • French Language

Working professionals who have sound knowledge, expertise, and skills in healthcare are eligible to create the profile for the Express Entry Healthcare occupation draw. You must achieve the minimum CRS score requirements to receive the invitations to apply for permanent residence in Canada.
