Canada is determined to curb its skilled workers’ shortage to ensure that tech companies run smoothly. In Collision’s tech conference in Toronto, Fraser broke the news that the country launched a digital nomad strategy for skilled and talented workers worldwide.

Canada's immigration minister released a recent update that includes three programs for skilled workers to stay in Canada and work for their tech sectors.

What is the Digital Nomad Strategy?

As per the minister's statement, according to the digital nomad strategy, foreign workers can stay up to 6 months in Canada, and if he/she gets job offers, they can extend their stay, which would be longer. The fortnight strategy, therefore, is an initiative to cut short the shortage of skilled professionals in the tech world in Canada.

According to a recent update, Canada hopes to balance the demand and supply of labour by enabling skilled workers to remain in the country, contribute to its economic expansion, and spend money in the communities.

The federal government is looking for a solution for the long term and to erase the shortage issues by extending the visa permit for international workers in Canada.

Another Two Strategies: Benefits and Advantages

The second announcement also targeted a similar sector to reduce the labour shortage. The Federal government official further added that by this year's end, they would develop an immigration stream that will allow the world's best and most talented professionals to come to Canada under work permit to join tech companies whether they have job offers or not. The clarifications of the candidate's eligibility and the number of professional entries are yet to be released from the government officials.

Besides, in another announcement, the official clarified that they would create an innovation stream under the international mobility program for skilled workers in select in-demand occupations and continue working with the government-selected companies and contributing to Canada's innovation goals.

The third announcement made by Fraser specifically targets American professionals. According to him, by July 16, the government will create an open work permit stream to allow 10,000 American H-1B visa holders to come and work in Canada. The official added that the stream would provide study and work permits to their family members.
