Announced on December 23, 2024, the change to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) came into effect on March 25, 2025.
Those applying for Canadian permanent residence under the Express Entry system can no longer get job offer points on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). This is applicable to all valid job offers for work in Canada, including those requiring a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
The change was initially announced on December 23, 2024, in an official News Release by IRCC. The reason for the change was given as an attempt at reducing fraud by removing incentive for LMIA sale and purchase for improving CRS score.
The change will impact those applying for Canada PR visa through IRCC Express Entry. There will be no impact on those who have already received an ITA or have an application under processing.
Effective March 25, 2025, no additional CRS points can be claimed by an Express Entry candidate with their profile in the pool. This will also apply to new candidates creating their Express Entry profiles online.
Earlier, an Express Entry candidate could claim an additional CRS 50 or CRS 200 points for arranged employment. The additional points would make a lot of difference for those with a low CRS score. Getting extra CRS points would make them more likely to get an ITA from IRCC.
Canadian permanent residence applications under Express Entry can only be submitted after receiving an ITA. The higher your CRS score, the better your chances of being issued an official invitation to apply.
So far in 2025, the minimum score requirement has ranged from the highest CRS 802 for Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) candidates on February 4, 2025, to the lowest CRS 379 for French proficiency candidates on March 21, 2025. As a PNP nomination is worth CRS 600 in itself, the score requirement for PNP-only draws tends to be on the higher side.
While the IRCC Press Release on December 23, 2024, referred to it as a “temporary measure”, no information has been provided as to the end date.
No. You can still get a maximum of 10 points for arranged employment in Canada on the eligibility calculation.
