Canada has introduced category-based selection for invitation rounds held under the Express Entry system.
In 2023, Canada is prioritizing professional experience rather than the ranking score of an Express Entry System candidate.
Previously, invitations to apply were issued on the basis of the ranking in the Express Entry pool. With the introduction of category-based selection, the focus has shifted from the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score to professional experience in targeted EE draws.
Under category-based selection, 6 categories are being targeted by IRCC in 2023. These are -
With the introduction of category-based selection, there is uncertainty among Express Entry candidates who don’t fall in any of the 6 categories. For them, the route ahead can be through a provincial government.
With 80+ immigration pathways available, Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is the leading route for economic immigration. All provinces and territories are a part of Canadian PNP except Quebec and Nunavut territory.
In 2023-25, a total of 3,33,000 PR visas will be granted under the PNP.
