Key Highlights:
The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently invited 463 immigration candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to apply for permanent residence in the country.
To receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), the immigration candidates had to have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 751 points.
While this cut-off score may seem to be very high, that is because getting nominated adds 600 additional points to the CRS score.
Therefore, before getting nominated by a province, they had a CRS score of just 151 points. In the previous draw, the IRCC invited candidates with a CRS score of 760 points.
Up to the present in 2021, Canada has only been inviting Express Entry candidates from the PNP and Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
This is because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Express Entry candidates from PNP and CEC are more likely to be in Canada before receiving the invitation.
The candidates nominated by a province have proved that they have the skills required to succeed in the province’s labour market.
The role of the PNP is to step in where there are gaps in the province’s workforce and get skilled immigrants to fill out these gaps. Federal programs could not have filled these gaps.
The number of ITAs till now by the IRCC, a whopping 102,779, is almost double that of those issued by this point in 2020.
These high numbers indicate that the country is very close to achieving its goal of inviting 108,500 candidates by the year-end through Express Entry draws.
