Canada Invites 1,000 in Latest Express Entry Draw

Canada holds the second consecutive round of invitations within two days following a long pause.

On December 7, 2023, Canada issued another 1,000 invitations under the Express Entry system to those with French language proficiency. The latest Express Entry Draw #273 had a score requirement of CRS 470. Express Entry profiles are ranked based on a score on the Comprehensive Ranking System.

The previous draw was held on December 6, 2023.

With the latest round of invitations, Canada continues to send out invitations under category-based selection.

What is category-based selection for Express Entry?

Introduced in May 2023, category-based selection allows the Canadian government to invite immigrants based on specific requirements as per a previously-identified economic goal. Candidates are selected based on their -

• language ability,
• education,
• Work experience in a particular occupation.

Category-based selection is among the 3 types of Express Entry draws held which include general draws and PNP-only draws. In category selection, the top-ranking EE candidates who come under that particular category are invited.

The Canadian government has specified 6 categories for 2023. These are -

1. Agriculture and agri-food occupations
2. French-language proficiency
3. Healthcare occupations
4. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) occupations
5. Trade occupations
6. Transport occupations

When was the first category-based Express Entry draw held?

The first ever category-based Express Entry draw was held on June 28, 2023. Healthcare occupations received 500 ITAs.

How many category-based Express Entry draws have been held in 2023?

So far, 13 category based draws have been held since the launch of category-based selection in May 2023. A total of 17,900 ITAs have been issued in category-based draws.

Who is eligible for Express Entry category-based selection?     

You must fulfill both the general and specific requirements. You must be eligible for any 1 of the 3 Express Entry programs. Also, you will have to meet the specific requirements for that category-based draw.
