Canada Holds the Biggest Express Entry Draw of 2022

Published on : September 1, 2022

Canada issues the most number of invitations in any draw held so far in 2022. The fifth consecutive all-program draw to be held by IRCC this year. The minimum CRS requirement goes down.

On August 31, 2022, another 2,750 invitations were issued to Canada immigration hopefuls that intend to migrate to Canada through Express Entry.

An online application management system, Express Entry system was launched in 2015. With the latest round of invitations, a total of 230 Express Entry draws have been held since its launch.

Note. CRS: Comprehensive Ranking System, a 1,200-point matrix used for ranking profiles in the IRCC pool of Canada PR by Express Entry hopefuls.

Express Entry draws are held by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), a department of the federal Government of Canada.

Scoring 67 points on the eligibility calculations lets you create an Express Entry profile, valid for one year from the date of creation. However, you can only submit your Canadian permanent residence application by the Express Entry route when invited through an official Invitation to Apply (ITA).

ITAs are issued in the Express Entry draws that are held from time to time. The latest Express Entry draw had the most number of ITAs issued so far in 2022.

With a tie-breaking rule of April 16, 2022 at 18:24:41 UTC applied, candidates who got ITAs in the latest round of IRCC invitations were those who were -

  1. Eligible for either FSWP, FSTP, CEC, or a PNP stream linked to Express Entry,
  2. Had an Express Entry pool ranking score of CRS 516 and above, and
  3. Created their Express Entry profile before April 16, 2022 at 18:24:41 UTC per the tie-breaking rule applied.

IRCC makes use of a tie-breaking rule to prioritize profiles entered into the pool earlier over those created later. According to IRCC, if multiple candidates have the minimum required lowest CRS score, the cut-off will be as per the “date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles”.

All-program draws were resumed by IRCC from July 6, 2022. Since then, the number of ITAs issued in a draw has steadily increased - from 1,500 ITAs in Express Entry Draw #226 held on July 6, 2022, to 2,750 invitations in the latest Express Entry Draw #230.

The minimum CRS cut-off, on the other hand, has been going down - from CRS 557 requirement in Draw #226 to the minimum CRS 516 cut-off in the latest Express Entry draw on August 31, 2022.
