In a latest update, IRCC decides to do away with the CRS points given to Express Entry candidates based on an LMIA-based job offer in Canada.
Express Entry candidates will no longer be given additional points on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) matrix for having an LMIA-based Canadian job offer. Earlier, you could claim CRS 50 to CRS 200 points under additional points with a job offer.
On December 17, 2024, the Canadian Immigration Minister Marc Miller made the announcement, speaking in a televised interview. The date when the change will be effective is yet to be made clear.
As of now, the IRCC CRS points calculator continues to grant 50 points for arranged employment in Canada. Further changes are expected within the coming days.
In 2025, Canada’s points-based immigration system is projected to go through various changes. The federal government of Canada is updating the system to tighten the rules which would prevent Canadian job offer frauds.
Going ahead, those applying for a Canada PR visa through the Express Entry system will no longer get points, under the “additional points” factor, for a job offer. To be considered, a Canadian job offer must generally be supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
According to the recent statement made by Immigration Minister Marc Miller, Canada was implementing more measures that would reinforce the integrity of the immigration program of Canada. This is being done to “reduce potential LMIA fraud”.
These changes include removing additional points allotted to Express Entry candidates under the Express Entry CRS calculation for having a job offer.
So far, the precise date for the implementation of the change has not been announced. There has also been no official statement from IRCC.
In September 2024, LMIA processing for the low-wage stream of the Temporary Foreign Workers Program (TFWP) was suspended by the Canadian Government.
Additionally, the pay requirements for the high-wage stream were increased in November 2025. With the change, the high-wage stream now requires that TFWP workers earn 20% above the median wage for that occupation in that particular region.
Earlier, TFWP high-wage stream workers had to earn only an amount either equal to or more than the median wage.
The changes are aligned with the Canadian Government’s changes on immigration as laid down in the 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan.
Talking about the removal of CRS points for job offers, Immigration Minister Marc Miller stated that the “measure is expected to remove the incentive for candidates to purchase an LMIA, resulting in increased fairness and integrity in Express Entry”.
