Canada Express Entry Draw Held After 41 Days Break

Canada has held another round of invitations. The previous Express Entry draw was held in October 2023.

On December 6, 2023, the Canadian Government held the 272th draw under the Express Entry system. The first Express Entry draw was on January 31, 2015.

In the latest Express Entry draw, invitations to apply (ITAs) were issued to 4,750 Canada PR hopefuls. Those who were invited can go ahead and submit their complete applications to be granted Canadian permanent residence. It was a general draw and not a category-based Express Entry draw. The ranking score of the lowest-ranked individual was CRS 561 as per the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

The last EE draw was held on October 26, 2023. No Express Entry draws took place in November 2023.

In Express Entry Draw #272, a tie-breaking rule of November 08, 2023 at 06:00:13 UTC was applied. With this, the 4,750 candidates who were invited were -

• Eligible for either FSWP, FTSP, CEC, or Express Entry linked PNP streams,
• With a minimum CRS 561 as their ranking score, and
• Profile created before the tie-break applied.

The Express Entry system comes under Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Profiles created earlier are prioritized over those entered in the pool at a later date.

The latest Express Entry draw is the 36th Express Entry draw in 2023 -

• General draws: 18
• Category-specific draws: 12
• PNP-specific: 5
• FWSP-only: 1

What are the Express Entry draw types?

Category-based selection was introduced in May 2023, with the first category-based Express Entry draw held on June 28, 2023.

There are three kinds of Express Entry draws -

(1) General

Invitations sent to top ranking candidates eligible for an Express Entry program.

(2) Program-specific

In such Express Entry rounds, a particular Express Entry program is specifically targeted. Invitations are then sent out to those with the highest points and eligible for that particular program.

(3) Category-based

Specific categories are established by Canada for Express Entry category-based selection. These are as per the specific economic goal to be met. Top-ranking candidates in the Express Entry pool eligible for the selected category receive invitations.   

How many Express Entry invitations in 2023?         

Canada sets the annual invitations limit as per the 3-year immigration levels plan announced on November 1 every year. For 2023, the target of Canada PR visas to be given under Express Entry was set at 82,880.

The new 2024-2026 Immigration Levels Plan was announced on November 1, 2023. There will be 110,770 who get Canadian permanent residency by Express Entry in 2024, followed by 117,500 immigrants each in 2025 and 2026.
