Canada Express Entry: Another 1,082 PNP Nominees Receive Invitations

Canada continues with the recent trend of inviting Express Entry candidates with a nomination.

On February 16, 2022, the federal government of Canada invited another 1,082 candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence through Express Entry.

This is the fourth Express Entry draw to be held in 2022. The previous Express Entry draw was held on February 16, 2022.

With the latest round of invitations, altogether 3,580 invitations have been issued in 2022.

Here, CRS is used for the Comprehensive Ranking System used for ranking profiles while in the Express Entry pool of candidates. This ranking score, allotted out of a 1,200-points matrix, is different and not to be confused with the 67-point eligibility for making an Express Entry profile.

You can create your Express Entry profile if you manage to score 67 points and above on the Canada Skilled Immigration Eligibility Calculator. However, all that you can do is create your profile and wait for an invitation.

Now, invitations to apply, also referred to as ITAs, are issued by IRCC to the highest-ranking candidates based on their CRS scores.

CSR 600 points can be obtained through a PNP nomination. Therefore, a PNP nomination guarantees an ITA from IRCC in a subsequent round of invitations.

• A PNP nomination,
• At least CRS 710 points as their ranking score, and
• Created their Express Entry profile before the tie-breaking rule applied, that is, before October 7, 2021 at 11:36:55 UTC.

Who is a PNP nominee?

Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) offers around 80 different pathways, all leading to permanent residence in Canada.

Some of the PNP streams are linked to the federal Express Entry system. Others run independently.

An individual that is able to secure a nomination (through any of the provinces and territories in Canada part of the PNP), is referred to as a PNP nominee.

What is the Express Entry system of Canada?

Launched in 2015, Express Entry is an online application management system used to handle permanent residence applications from skilled workers that are looking to migrate to Canada.

The Express Entry system comes under the Canadian government’s department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Applications for three of the main economic immigration programs of Canada are accepted and processed through Express Entry of IRCC. These are -

• Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
• Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and
• Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Some other immigration routes are also linked with Express Entry. These are pathways or streams under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

A nomination through any of the PNP pathways linked with Express Entry guarantees an ITA by IRCC.

While the creation of an Express Entry profile is quite a simple and straightforward process, you can only submit your application for permanent residence through Express Entry when invited.

How many newcomers will Canada welcome in 2022?

4,31,645 are to be welcomed by Canada in 2022, as per the recently announced 2022-2024 Immigration Levels Plan.

Of these, 241,850 will be immigrants that get their Canada PR visa through various economic immigration programs such as those under Express Entry.
