Existing categories undergo changes, with certain occupations added and others removed.
On February 27, 2025, Canada announced major changes to the category-based selection criteria of the Express Entry system. The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Marc Miller announced the 2025 Express Entry categories. The changes are for better aligning economic immigrant selection with labour shortages in Canada.
In 2025, Canada will focus on inviting candidates with Canadian work experience to apply for Canada PR visa under Express Entry. Such candidates will include those eligible for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), an immigration program under Express Entry.
Additionally, IRCC will conduct category-based invitation rounds for meeting Francophone immigration targets and those who meet the labour demand in health, trades, and education.
The focus of 2025 EE category-based selection will be on Canadian immigration hopefuls with -
(1) strong French language skills, or
(2) work experience in specific fields like
