Resolving the Skills Gap
In an effort to address critical skills shortages, New South Wales (NSW) is inviting skilled professionals to become permanent residents. As part of the 2023-24 migration program, individuals in key sectors like healthcare, education, information technology, infrastructure and agriculture are invited.
In regard to the Migration Program Planning, NSW offers nomination allocations in three visa categories:
Each state and territory assess eligible applicants based on their specific criteria. For the current fiscal year, NSW has been granted 4,150 visa slots.

An Allocation Advantage
NSW has received the largest allocation of visa nominations among all states and territories, despite a national reduction. This reflects the Australian government's recognition of the state's needs.
A Shift in Approach
A significant change in NSW’s approach is the move from a list of eligible ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations) unit groups to a sector-focused strategy. Rather than solely relying on the Skilled Occupation List, the state will prioritize specific sectors to resolve the skills gap.

While these sectors are prioritized, high-ranking Expression of Interest (EOI) submitted in non-priority sectors are also being considered.
Factors for Evaluation
When assessing EOIs, NSW will consider factors such as your points score, English language proficiency, and skilled work experience.
Open to All
Applicants, whether offshore or onshore, are welcome. This includes professionals in healthcare, teaching, I.T and civil engineering fields. Despite a reduced allocation, those meeting all criteria should still apply, as they might be eligible for state nomination invitations.
Invitations Throughout the Year
Invitation rounds will continue to take place throughout the fiscal year, without any predetermined or publicly announced dates.
