Australia’s NSW Skilled Migration Program Open for 2024-25

The State Nomination Program is now open for applications. Changes implemented in EOI for subclass 190 & 491.

New South Wales has officially launched its skilled visa nomination program for 2024-25. The application process has been streamlined, and additional opportunities have been created for skilled migrants to start a new life in NSW.

The NSW government has announced an update on the priority sectors to be considered for the state nomination. Experienced workers with skills in high demand are targeted under -

The NSW Government has published the occupation list for the 2024-2025 program. The list contains occupations per their ANZSCO codes. There are separate lists for subclass 190 and subclass 491 visas. There is a high demand for skilled workers in certain occupations.

The invitation rounds are expected to begin soon. The NSW government has announced no specific date.

What are the important changes announced by NSW in skilled worker nomination?

The key updates in the NSW Skilled Migration Program 2024-25 are:

1. New direct application pathway

New South Wales has introduced a new direct application pathway for the Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) visa. Recent graduates from specific NSW institutions are eligible.

2. Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT)

Applicants in specific occupations might be eligible for a 10% reduction on the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT).

3. Change in Expression of Interest (EOI) criteria

The NSW Government has simplified their approach. Previous EOI restrictions have been removed. NSW have updated their skilled employment criteria. The State has now adopted the Department of Home Affairs' definition of skilled employment. Any valid EOI registered with the NSW will be considered during an invitation round.

4. Nomination application change

The NSW Skilled Nomination application charge has been increased to AUD 315 (around INR 17,837).

Basic eligibility

To be considered for a NSW nomination, you must meet the requirements of -

  • Visa eligibility: You must meet all visa requirements per your specific pathway
  • Skills assessment: Secure a valid skills assessment. Your occupation must be listed on the eligible skills occupation list for the visa and fall within the ANZSCO unit group identified on the NSW Skills List.

How to secure a NSW nomination?

You must receive an invitation before you can submit your application. The basic stepwise process is -

  1. Checking eligibility: You must meet both the visa pathway requirements and the NSW nomination eligibility.
  2. EOI submission: If you meet the criteria, you can submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) in the SkillSelect online portal.
  3. Receive an invitation: You must receive an invitation to apply from the NSW Government.
  4. Applying: You must submit your documents in 14 days from the date the ITA was issued. Valid documents must support all information supplied in the EOI.
  5. Nomination assessment: Your application will be processed within 6 weeks.
