Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) Government has officially opened the skilled visa nomination program for the program year 2024-25.
Updates have been made to make the application process more streamlined and simplified for skilled workers. New opportunities have been created for skilled workers looking for visa pathways to live and work in New South Wales.
The NSW skilled visa nomination program plays a prominent role in removing critical skills shortages within the Australian State. The program also supports industries that are going through significant change.
The shortlisted priority sectors for the program year 2024-25 are -
An updated skills set has also been published. The new NSW skills list highlights the key roles the State Government seeks to fill to drive the local economy.
Under the State Nomination route to Australia PR visa, NSW nominates skilled foreign workers for the following visas -
The NSW skills list is prepared based on the skills in demand in the NSW labour market. The skills list aligns with the State’s key priorities and target sectors.
Skills lists are developed to give direction to the skilled worker nomination process in view of specific skills shortages.
NSW has 2 lists -
(1) NSW Skills List
Applicable to the Skilled Nominated (subclass 190), including skills that are in demand across NSW and are classified at the ANZSCO level.
(2) NSW Regional Skills List
Applicable for the Skilled Work regional (subclass 491) visa, focussing upon skills that are specifically needed in the regional areas of NSW. ANZSCO unit group classification is used for establishing skills requirements.
For the 2024-25 program year, only the occupations that -
(1) come under the given ANZSCO code, and
(2) are eligible for the respective visa
will be considered for a nomination by NSW.
The State Government is committed to ensuring that the Australian skilled migration supported by it through nomination is aligned with the local workforce and economic requirements.
