Canada surpasses 100,000 ITAs that were issued in 2020.

Canada issued another 5,000 ITAs to immigration candidates in the latest Express Entry draw held on 09 December 2020. A record number of 102,350 invitations are issued this year.

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of these candidates was 469 points.

Express Entry Programs

These are the three federal economic-class programs managed by Canada’s immigration application management system.

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

CRS points are awarded to Express Entry candidates based on human capital factors like age, work experience, education, and language ability in both English and French languages.

The highest-scoring candidates in the Express Entry pool are issued Invitations to Apply for Canadian permanent residence.

Surpassing Previous Records

The highest number of ITAs ever issued in a year earlier was 100,000. With this latest draw, Canada in 2020 has invited the highest number of people for permanent residency in the country.

Canada’s Commitment to Welcome More Immigrants

This is in line with the Canadian policy of welcoming over 400,000 new immigrants in 2021. Most of these are expected to come through the Express Entry system.

CRS Cut-Off Scores for this Draw

The CRS cut-off score for the 9th December 2020 draw was 469 points. The IRCC tie-breaking rule came into effect, and only candidates submitting their Express Entry profile before 04 June 2020 at 22:26:05 UTC received invitations to apply.

Significant Dip in CRS Requirement

CRS scores typically hover above 470 in most draws. It is only the second time that they have dipped to 469. There have been a few exceptions, though.

  • CRS score of 415 was for The Federal Skills Trades Program draw held on 06th August
  • CRS score of 440 was for the previous Canadian Experience Class draw

The PNP Pathway to Canada PR

PNP-only draws have higher requirements. This is because Express Entry candidates receiving provincial nominations get 600 CRS additional points.

Provincial nominations, in fact, offer a great pathway to Express Entry candidates with lower CRS scores.
